Here at the Marazion Hotel we strive to work with local suppliers and keep our own environmental footprint as low as possible.

These are some of the ways in which we achieve that.

ACCOMMODATION

Recycling

We all know that recycling reduces our landfill waste and reduces our impact on the environment.

For our guests we make recycling easy: there is a basket in every room for your recyclable waste. This gets collated with the other hotel recycling which gets collected weekly by Biffa who recycle the paper, card, metal, plastic for general recycling and Cornwall Cullet who recycle the glass.

DID YOU KNOW? Most of the glass collected by Cornwall Cullet is sent to Dean Quarry at St Keverne for use in the base coat of Tarmac.

TOILETRIES AND LAUNDRY

To reduce plastic waste we no longer offer small plastic bottles in our bathrooms, we supply large re-fillable hand pumps for our hand wash, body wash and shampoo.  These are from a UK company made from natural ingredients with no parabens or microbeads.

We request guests to place any towels in the bath if they want them replaced on a daily basis so that this removes any unnecessary laundry. Our laundry is outsourced and washed in bulk to reduce energy consumption.

SOFT FURNISHINGS

We are thrilled to have Atlantic Blankets as our supplier of blankets and throws. These are designed in Cornwall, made in England and are made from 100% recycled materials. 75% is from recycled cotton and 25% from other fibres, all of which is fabric that would otherwise have been sent to landfill.

ENERGY AND WATER

We have replaced our boiler with a more efficient up to date one to save on energy. The loft is double insulated to maintain heat.  We are upgrading our toilet flush plates to have dual flush to reduce water usage.

We have installed Waterless Urinals in our Men’s toilets. A standard urinal will flush on a regular timer regardless of whether they have been used or not. They are almost entirely self-cleaning which also means that this reduces the amount of cleaning materials needed.

DID YOU KNOW? Waterless urinals save at least 100,000 litres of drinking water per year because they do not use any water.

Plastics

We are part of the Plastic Free Marazion project. We have audited our use of plastics and reduced or removed many unnecessary items. We no longer use milk from plastic bottles but have installed a Pergal Milk Dispenser for our kitchen to use which is filled regularly from dairy supplier. We don’t use plastic straws, stirrers, plates or cups and we are constantly investigating ways to improve.

Food

Cornwall is packed full of amazing produce so why source from anywhere else ?! We love to support our local suppliers, not only is it better for the environment with less food miles but it tastes fresher too!
